Due to summer adjournment of regular press conference, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kong Quan answered the questions from journalists through telephone this week.

Some journalists asked about China's comment on the part relating to China in the resolution recently approved by the European Parliament on the relations between EU, China and Taiwan and security in the Far-east. Kong Quan said, the resolution recently passed by the European Parliament made irresponsible comments and unreasonable charges on some issues such as the Cross-Straits situation and the EU's removal of its arms embargo against China. It doesn't conform to the truth, also does it violate the one-China principle universally adhered by the EU and its member states. We are firmly opposed to such resolution.

Kong stressed that the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership has developed soundly, and hoped the European Parliament, as an important organ of the EU, can faithfully abide by the one-China principle, and do more to facilitate the healthy development of the China-EU relations.

Some journalists asked what comment China had on Indian Prime Minister Singh and US President Bush agreed to enhance their cooperation in nuclear utilities for civil use. Kong Quan said that the international community has reached a consensus on relevant nuclear issues. We hope the relevant cooperation between US and India will be conducive to safeguarding the regional peace and stability in the Asia.

Some journalists asked: It is reported that the Tokyo High Court rejected the appeals of 180 Chinese plaintiffs for the apology and compensation of the Japanese Government for the use of germ weapons by Japan during the Japanese aggression war against China. What's China's comment? Kong Quan pointed out that the germ warfare was one of the grave crimes committed by the Japanese militarism during the World War II. The Japanese Government should shoulder their due responsibility with an honest attitude, seriously treat the reasonable demand of the victims and handle the issue properly.

The 12th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be opened in Vientiane, the Capital of Laos, on July 29th. Some journalists inquired about China's expectation and proposals for the meeting, and which security topics will become the meeting's top agenda. Kong Quan said, the 12th ARF Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be held in Vientiane on July 29th. Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing will lead the Chinese delegation to the meeting. China hopes all sides cab exchange views over issues of common interest including international and regional security situation and promoting the cooperation within the framework of ARF. We are convinced the meeting will help all parties enhance mutual trust and strengthen the role of ARF in regional security dialogues and cooperation.
