Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao's Comments From July 24 to 28

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao answered the following questions by telephone this week:

On the approval by the US House of Representatives concerning the US-India civilian nuclear cooperation accord, Liu Jianchao said that China has taken note of the report. We hold that countries can develop international cooperation on the peaceful use of nuclear energy under the condition of implementing international obligations. At the same time, relevant cooperation shall comply with the regulations of international non-proliferation regime and be conducive to the international non-proliferation efforts.

About the recent activities of Margaret Chan, the Assistant Director-General of WHO in Beijing , Liu Jianchao said, at the invitation of the Central Government, Ms. Margaret Chan, the Assistant Director-General of WHO, the Chinese candidate to the Director-General of WHO pays a visit to Beijing from July 27 to 30. She will have discussions with the relevant authorities of the Central Government on the election work. During her stay here, Vice Premier Wu Yi will meet with her, and officials of the Foreign Ministry, Health Ministry, and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council will also have meetings and talks with her.

On Albania granting asylum for 5 Chinese Uighur citizens, Liu Jianchao said that China has yet to receive the official notification of the Albanian government. The five Guantanamo detainees received by Albania are terrorist suspects and members of the "East Turkistan Islamic Movement" ,a terrorist organization which has been included into the sanction list of the 1267 committee of the UN Security Council. These Chinese terrorist suspects should be repatriated to China instead of being granted refugee status.
