Excellencies and distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening!
The Chinese New Year of the horse is drawing closer. It is my great pleasure to join you celebrating its arrival. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to all Chinese nationals in Malaysia, including but not limited to, those working in the Chinese companies, studying in multi-level academic institutions, and staying in this beautiful country for various reasons. My warmest greetings and best wishes also go to our dear Malaysian friends, who have contributed immensely to prospering the China-Malaysia friendly ties. I wish you all good health, abundant happiness, and a great success in the year of the horse!
2025 is a year of China invigorating the global economy with its own vibrancy. China’s GDP surpassed 140 trillion Yuan in 2025, marking 5% increase from the previous year and 30% contribution to global economic growth. In 2025, China saw over 500 million parcels delivered from here to there every day and a total of over 10 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity consumed.
2025 is a year of China benefiting the world with sci-tech progress. In 2025, China championed the world by becoming the first country boasting over 5 million active invention patents, running the largest number of large-scale artificial intelligence models, and having built the largest renewable energy system. In 2025, China’s new energy vehicle production and sale record hit over 16 million units; 5G subscribers surpassed 1.2 billion; and 6G research and development passed the first-phase technical trials.
2025 is a year of China sharing development opportunities with the international community. In 2025, China continued to be the major trading partner of more than 150 countries and regions, at the same time, main export market for 79 countries and regions. China’s goods import registered 18.5 trillion yuan in 2025, accounting for nearly 10% of the global total. In 2025, visa-free foreign visits to China skyrocketed to 30.08 million, marking nearly 50% increase from the previous year.
2025 is a year of China injecting certainty into the uncertain world. Committed to sharing China’s wisdom to shaping a better-governed world, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) in late 2025, which was immediately welcomed by over 150 countries and international organizations. In 2025, China successfully hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit and the Global Women Summit, both of which immensely promoted global peace, cooperation, and friendship. Hand in hand, China and its partner countries are steadily advancing the career of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,
2025 is a milestone year in the development of China-Malaysia relations, whose most significant achievement is President Xi Jinping’s visit to Malaysia, the second one after 12 years. During this visit, joint statement was made showing the two countries’ commitment to jointly building the high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, which ushered the two countries into a new phase of bilateral relations’ development, the best ever in history. 2025 also witnessed Premier Li Qiang’s twice visits to Malaysia and Prime Minister Anwar’s fourth visit to China since taking office, all of which substantially strengthened China-Malaysia friendly ties in a comprehensive way.
To our shared pride, China-Malaysia practical cooperation keeps bringing substantive benefits to people of both countries. According to China’s official data, bilateral trade between China and Malaysia registered 191.66 billion US dollars in 2025, an impressive achievement against the backdrop of global economic downturn. Now, China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years; the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has achieved 91% completion; and the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” is undergoing further upgrading.
To our shared joy, “travel on a whim” has become real. Thanks to the implementation of the mutual visa-free policy, people of both countries can come to visit each other whenever they want. 2025 registered 4.77 million Chinese tourist visits to Malaysia. Now, 716 flights are shuttling between the two countries every week, a good witness of the ever-tightened people-to-people bonds.
Distinguished guests, dear friends,
2026 is the beginning year of both China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the 13th Malaysia Plan. Horse, an auspicious animal in Chinese culture, symbolizes progress and promising prospects. Inspired by its daring spirit and dynamic energy, China and Malaysia will ride high in 2026, and jointly write a glorious chapter in the new journey of another golden 50 years of China-Malaysia relations.
At this joyful moment of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new, I suggest we raise our glasses to toast:
To the happiness of the Chinese New Year of the horse,
To the continued prosperity of China-Malaysia relations,
And to the health and happiness of people of both countries,
Cheers!
Thank you.
