On August 11, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Kuala Lumpur hosted an official opening ceremony, which was attended by H.E. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing; Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, Algernon Yau Ying-wah; Chairman of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Frederick Ma Si-hang; Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook; Deputy Minister of Finance, Liew Chin Tong; Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Sim Tze Tzin, along with close to a hundred guests from political, business, and media sectors of both countries.

Secretary Algernon Yau thanked the Malaysian government for its strong support in the establishment of HKETO, and said that the office will drive greater opportunities for both sides in finance, logistics, innovative technologies, green industries, and creative industries, among other areas, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Minister Anthony Loke, on behalf of the Malaysian government, congratulated HKETO on its opening. He said that Malaysia hopes to leverage Hong Kong's advantages in finance and professional services to accelerate its own industrial value chain upgrading. He also called for more direct flight routes between Malaysian cities and Hong Kong to deepen their connectivity.
