Spokesperson Zhang Qiyue's Remarks on the Visit to Hong Kong by the USS Kitty Hawk
2004-02-20 00:00

Question: It's reported by the Taiwan United News on the 17th  that the aircraft carrier the USS Kitty Hawk will visit Hong Kong next month to "warn the Chinese mainland".  What is your comment?

Answer:  As known to all, US war ships have visited Hong Kong from time to time since China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong in 1997. These visits are up to approval by the Chinese Central Government. It is no exception for the visit by the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier group for replenishment to Hong Kong from March 6th to 10th.
