Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kong Quan's Remarks on Vietnam's first organized tour to the Nansha Islands
2004-04-19 00:00

Q: It is reported that Vietnam has organized the first tour to the Nansha Islands today. What is your comment?

A: We express our strong dissatisfaction with the first tour to the Nansha Islands organized by Vietnam in disregard of China's reported representations and firm opposition.

Vietnam's above activities have infringed on China's territorial sovereignty, violated the consensus on the question of the South China Sea reached between China and Vietnam, and broken the principles set forth in the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea between China and the ASEAN. Such activities have made the situation in the South China Sea more complicated. It is not conducive to the final settlement of the disputes. We once again ask the Vietnamese side to honor its commitments, stop immediately any action that makes the situation complicated, and earnestly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
